High Strength Carbon Bushings
Problem
Some sites have noted some crumbling or damage to the carbon bushings used to take up the extra space in a stuffing box when using the standard 4-5 rings of valve packing. Simple load testing of some bushings have found that they can begin to fracture at loads as low as 4000psi, which is a typical range for successful packing load. Many times attention is not paid to the carbon bushing, as it is viewed as simply an item to fill the extra space in the stuffing box.
Solution
AP Services has done extensive research to identify those characteristics which are most critical to obtaining a “high strength” carbon bushing. For standard applications our Style 5005 bushing is adequate, but for more critical, challenging, higher stress applications the Style 5010 bushing is the preferred solution.
