Condensate Pump Spiral Wound Gasket Failure due to Radial Buckling

Millstone Condensate Pump Discharge flange gasket failure (Style CG) in 2010. Radial buckling occurs due to the use today of graphite in the windings of spiral gaskets vs. asbestos in the past. Design Dis. Pressure 600 psig, Temp. 150 deg. F. Service Conditions 600 to 650 psig at 104 deg. F. 18 inch flange. Gasket on discharge head for Hayward Tyler pump.
Solution
Replace with either a Spiral Wound Style CGI gasket (contains an inner ring) or a Kammprofile gasket.
