Chronic Valve Packing Leaks
Problem
Sites experience “chronic” packing leaks many times due to the installed condition of the equipment (high vibration or cavitation, poor clearances, etc). In many of these situations, little can be done with the equipment to improve these types of conditions. To address high cavitation/vibration issues can generally only be resolved by a valve upgrade/replacement.
Solution
The addition of 1/16” thick Style 6200N graphite washers to a standard graphite or braided packing set can significantly improve performance. The addition of the washers significantly reduce skirting of the sealing material, providing improved packing containment and sealability. The addition of graphite washers has proven successful in a variety of applications from severe cavitation on improperly sized globe valves, chronic “leakers”.
