Problem
Chronic packing leakage usually around the gland follower outer diameter has occurred due to large gland follower clearance (>0.030") on O.D. Stuffing box inside diameter also runs oversized by 0.008”-0.020”. Instances have occurred on Velan and Anchor Darling double disc gate valves.
Solution
Use a close tolerance high density carbon bushing above the packing set to close up clearances and prevent extrusion.
