Spiral Wound Buckling in a 10 Inch Globe Valve Body to Bonnet Joint
Problem
During disassembly of a Walworth 10 inch 5281WE globe valve at a nuclear plant in Alabama, craft noticed that the spiral wound gasket for the body to bonnet joint had radially buckled and gasket material was found inside the body (on top of the disc assembly). Most of the gasket was still in the groove however sizable portions were found inside the valve.
Solution
The body to bonnet gasket was replaced with a Flexpro (kammprofile) style PN gasket which eliminates the potential for spiral wound gasket buckling.
