RTO Outlet (Kiln & Scrubber System) Expansion Joint at Cement Plant
Problem
RTO Outlet takes reduced temperature gases (1500 deg F top) down to 400 deg F at a cement plant.
The problems noted with the expansion joint failure were:
- No Flow Liner, which has been recommended numerous of times
- Not enough set back to keep the gas side of the joint away from the media
- The existing material was a fluoropolymer with a gas film , .047”thk
Due to these issues, the part was constantly fluttering causing damage to the joint and breaking down the integrity of the reinforcement resulting in premature failure.
Solution
The Holz Engineering Team improved the integrity of the existing joint by changing the style of the joint to a FPT-50 “MOD” with an 18 x 18 wire mesh wrap and cuff taped molded flanges.
