Problem

Numerous packing failures occurred on the Ash Grinders at a coal fired power plant in Texas. Original design included an OEM braided material with a lantern ring installed. Packing failure led to weekly maintenance of cleaning out the pits and repacking and injecting them a sealant/lubricant that cost the plant over $800.00 per 5 gallon container.

Solution

AP Services came up with a proven packing configuration consisting of removal of the lantern ring to facilitate more packing rings to provide better sealing capacity along with utilizing AP Style 750C with a silicone core. Gum rubber rings were also added to the bottom of the set to reduce debris migration into the packing chamber.
