Problem

Due to an anti-tamper switch depression on the valve stem, graphite packing is not recommended for M & K Fire Protection Valves. Gland Stress is also limited due to a weak gland design that is prone to damage at higher packing stresses.

Solution

Flax Packing (AP Style 650) is recommended for M & K Fire Protection valves in cold water service. Gland Stress should be limited to 2500 PSI due to weak gland design typically found on these valves.
