Clinker Grinder Leakage on Impro Seal Installed in Coal Fired Power Plant
Problem
Current Impro air seal installed on clinker grinders at a coal plant in Pennsylvania failed due to extreme rigors of the clinker grinder system. Once system is running and seal starts to fail, there is no way to adjust and stop failure, and extreme leakage occurs.
Solution
AP Services designed a special packing set that replaced the expensive Impro Seal and eliminated leakage on these clinker grinders. AP Services Style 750C packing combines Kevlar corners that prevent extrusion and handles corrosive and abrasive fluids along with a silicone core, which offers added resilience to the packing to overcome mechanical deficiencies. An abrasion resistant Style 449 gum rubber ring was installed at the bottom of the stuffing box to limit ash getting into packing area.
